【内容】
横浜の神奈川宿周辺は、江戸時代より神社祭礼とともに神楽が受け継がれてきた、歴史ある文化の地です。東海道の宿場町として多くの人々が往来したこの地では、神楽は人々の祈りと歓びを体現する重要な存在として発展してきました。
本プログラムを率いる加藤俊彦氏は、横浜生まれ・横浜育ちの神楽師であり、地域文化を現代に昇華させる気鋭の芸術家です。笛や太鼓の指導者として後進の育成にも力を注ぐ一方、歌舞伎俳優である 尾上松也 への演技指導や、松竹 関連作品への出演など、その活動は舞台芸術の枠を超えて多方面に広がっています。
加藤氏が手がける神楽は、伝統的な所作を大切にしながらも、現代の観客にも響くダイナミックな演出が特徴です。特に七福神を題材とした演舞は、華やかな装束と躍動感あふれる舞、そして笛や太鼓による生演奏が一体となり、観る者を一瞬で神話の世界へと引き込みます。その迫力と美しさは、まさに圧巻のひと言に尽きます。

【Program Overview】
The area around Kanagawa-juku in Yokohama is a historically and culturally rich district where Kagura (sacred Shinto music and dance) has been passed down alongside Shinto shrine festivals since the Edo period. As a bustling post town on the Tokaido highway where many travelers came and went, this area saw Kagura develop into an essential medium that embodied the prayers and joys of the local people.
This program is led by Toshihiko Kato, a Yokohama-born and raised Kagura master and an energetic artist dedicated to elevating local culture into the modern era. While focusing on nurturing the next generation as an instructor of traditional Japanese flutes and drums, his diverse activities extend beyond the theatrical arts to include coaching Kabuki actor Matsuya Onoe and performing in Shochiku-related productions.
While preserving traditional movements, the Kagura crafted by Mr. Kato features dynamic staging that resonates deeply with modern audiences. His performances themed around the Seven Lucky Gods are particularly spectacular, seamlessly combining gorgeous costumes, energetic dances, and live flute and drum music to instantly draw viewers into a mythical world. The sheer power and beauty of his performances are truly breath-taking.
Evolving at the forefront of the history of the international city of Yokohama, Mr. Kato’s performances go beyond simple appreciation of traditional performing arts, offering international and domestic guests a deeply moving and special experience that touches the very spirit of Japanese culture.
