Story

THE STORIES OF YOKOHAMA

Yokohama — a story that began with the opening of the port.

The Story of Yokohama

When Yokohama opened its port in 1859, the city became one of Japan’s principal gateways to the world. Western culture and technology blended with Japanese traditions, creating a distinctive modern urban culture that continues to define Yokohama today.

The Story of Yokohama

A tradition of refined hospitality in Japan’s historic port city.

Yokohama Geisha

As Yokohama developed after the port opened, ryotei restaurants and social venues welcomed distinguished guests from Japan and overseas. Yokohama Geisha became part of this hospitality culture, and their dance, music and graceful service remain a living expression of the city’s history.

Yokohama Geisha

The silk trade that helped build modern Yokohama.

Yokohama & Silk

Yokohama was once known worldwide as a major raw-silk export port. The prosperity generated by silk supported Japan’s modernization and shaped the city’s industries, culture and streetscape—an important heritage that remains part of Yokohama’s identity.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can we ask for ideas and a quotation even if the event concept is not yet finalized?

Yes. Tell us the purpose of the event—such as international guest hospitality, team building, an anniversary program or an incentive—and our Yokohama-based coordinators can help shape the concept, venue and content from an early stage.

Can you arrange programs outside Yokohama?

Yes. Yokohama is our core area, but we can also combine nearby destinations such as Kamakura, other parts of Kanagawa and the greater Tokyo area when appropriate.

Can you organize events at historic buildings and other unique venues?

Yes. We can propose historic buildings, gardens, cultural facilities and waterfront venues, and provide integrated support for staging, production and on-site operation.

Do you offer cultural programs that explore the deeper ideas behind Japanese traditions?

Yes. Our programs include Yokohama Geisha, tea, calligraphy, kagura and other high-quality workshops, with interpretation and hands-on elements available for international guests.

Can an event contribute to sustainability or the local community?

Yes. Depending on your objectives, we can design programs that support local culture, traditional performing arts, regional businesses and the local economy.
